A RAF veteran will stand outside his front door and perform The Last Post in full Salvation Army uniform for his neighbours, at 11am today (11th November 2016) in Ellesmere Port.

When 89 year old Bill did this last year unbeknown to him he was filmed by his neighbour Katrina who uploaded the video to Facebook and it’s now been viewed more than 7 million times.

Bill, a lifelong Salvationist who is a member of The Salvation Army Corps (church) in Ellesmere Port performs at his front door to pay his respects to all of those who have and continue to lose their lives in war.

Lieutenant Louise Brown, Corps Officer at Ellesmere Port, said: “We’re immensely proud of Bill for continuing to reach out to his neighbours in this way. Bill is a valued member of our church where we support some of the most vulnerable people in the community.

“Bill’s prayer will be that in remembering all those who fell and continue to fall in wars, each person that hears him play will join him in praying for an end to all such wars.”

The Salvation Army in Ellesmere Port run a busy programme for the community which includes a popular charity Shop.

Every year The Salvation Army is involved in Remembrance Day services across the country in recognition of the church and charity’s relief efforts during the world wars as well as the support given to those in armed conflicts today which includes the work of military chaplains.
