All-Ireland champions Dublin took time out of their hectic schedule to bring some Christmas cheer to residents at the Salvation Army's York House.

The team are still basking in their third consecutive All-Ireland title triumph following a dramatic win over Mayo at Croke Park in September.

Jim Gavin’s players brought the Sam Maguire Cup to York House to give residents there the chance to meet the winning team and see trophy up close.

Robert Byrne, manager of York House, said:

“On behalf of everyone at York House, a massive thanks to the players from Dublin who took the time to come in and meet our residents and staff.

“For the Dublin players to spend time with our guys it’s really appreciated. Everyone had a smile on their face and enjoyed meeting some of the biggest names in the sport.”

“Many people at York House are facing a difficult Christmas for one reason or another so we try to make this time of the year as special as possible for them - that includes preparing gift packs for our residents and having plenty of parties and putting on a three-course dinner on Christmas day.”

York House is a Salvation Army lifehouse and earns its name by providing accommodation and specialised support for up to 80 men aged 18 and over. Residents are supported by highly-trained social workers to help them move into their own homes.

The lifehouse also provides long-term supported housing for people, many of whom have issues such as addiction and mental ill health.
