Good Friday: Assessment by General John Gowans

28 March 2013 - 1:33pm
| by Gaby

In his collection of poetry – O Lord! – the late General John Gowans offers the following words. Why not use them in your reflections today.

When I’m compelled
To contemplate Your Cross,
Your agony,
And can escape no more
The fact of loss,
It’s infamy.
Your broken body
Seems to me to say
That Love is best,
But he who loves
Must pay!

No precious thing
Is won without expense,
The myrrh belongs
Besides the frankincense.
Love goes to any length,
Will even die;
Pays in its person,
Though the price
Is high!
