A Salvation Army spokesperson said: "We are appalled at this horrific crime that happened within our community. Our centre has been caring for the vulnerable for years and is a well integrated part of the local community. We have no record of the allegation made in court and have started an investigation immediately.

Our procedures are that we would expect any employee to act compassionately under those circumstances and to offer to comfort and support regardless of gender.

We would never knowingly turn away a person in need and are extremely concerned about the allegation made".
