Young people aged between 8 to 16 from Sefton Music Service, along with local primary schools will join Southport Salvation Army Youth Band for an afternoon of workshops ahead of a performance with the church and charity’s International Staff band as part of a new partnership.

The event, set to take place on Saturday 22nd April will include young people of all abilities. They will take part in special workshops and perform at 6:15pm before The Salvation Army’s International Staff band concert begins at 7pm.

Brian Johnson, leader of The Salvation Army band in Southport, said: “Music is very important to us at The Salvation Army and we believe that by sharing our resources in this way with Sefton Music Service and local primary schools young people will benefit greatly. We’ve already held some rehearsals and it’s been wonderful.

“The partnership aims to encourage young people to get involved in music hence including local primary schools.

“Our afternoon of workshops will give the young people a fantastic opportunity to learn from talented musicians as well as working together as a team to practice ahead of the concert. Each of the three groups will perform on their own as well as together, for the first time. They will be led by Dr Stephen Cobb, the leader of The Salvation Army International Staff Band.  It’s an incredible opportunity for everyone.”

John Dempsey, Director of Brass Ensembles, Sefton Music Service, said: “We are delighted to be part of this new partnership between Sefton Music Service and The Salvation Army in Southport. We look forward to the young musicians in the area benefitting from the opportunities we can create together.”

The partnership between The Salvation Army Southport, Sefton Music Service and local primary schools will continue and two further events are planned for this year, in August and October.

Tickets are available for both the pre-concert with the young people at 6:15pm and The Salvation Army Staff Band at 7pm. Both events will take place at Floral Hall in Southport. For tickets and information please visit - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/international-staff-band-of-the-salvation...
