Statement: Begging for a Tampon

Dr Helen Cameron, head of Public Affairs for The Salvation Army, said: "We commend the way Major Colin Bradshaw has drawn attention to this deeply personal issue. It's sad to see that there are women that don't know where to turn to in this situation.

"The Salvation Army allows each of its local centres to decide what forms of practical assistance are most helpful to the community they serve. From the limited data we have available it is not possible to tell if requests for sanitary products are common.

"We're glad the warmth of The Salvation Army community in Darlington has lead to women disclosing this need. We would encourage food banks to be aware of this need."

As Warehouse Manager for a Foodbank in the south East of England I can tell you we always have sanitary product available on a table in the distribution centre for client to take if they need them.
